Frequently Asked Questions

The structure of GP training in Leicester recently changed so that trainees spend 12 out of 36 training months in secondary care. The 12 months in secondary care is divided into 3 four month speciality jobs the choice of which can be discussed with your training programme administrator. The rest of your training is spent in primary care across Leicester and Leicestershire.
We currently have GP trainees working in specialities ranging across paediatrics, general medicine, general surgery, obstetrics & gynaecology and emergency medicine.
GP trainees are valued members of our UHL team. We actively seek feedback about your training experience with us and act upon any areas for improvement. While with us you will be provided with GP curriculum specific educational support and have a Clinical Supervisor who is trained in the specific needs of GP trainees. We have a wide range of support groups including an active and welcoming international medical graduate group and our Medical Education Advice and Support team.
Our GP trainees are trained to be excellent primary care physicians while being provided with leadership opportunities and options for further training through their base department and the Department of Clinical Education. A recent example of GP trainee leadership is the development of curriculum booklets to guide GP specific training in each speciality. With the increasing focus on leadership in GP recruitment such opportunities are invaluable in evidencing you as a stand out candidate.
